The Strength in Crowns Project

Kindness Project + Community & Service

Many women experience hair loss for a variety of reasons, including medical conditions such as cancer and alopecia, hormonal changes such as postpartum hair loss, and other health-related or stress-induced factors. Regardless of the cause, hair loss can significantly impact a woman’s confidence, identity, and sense of self. However, many existing head coverings are often generic, uncomfortable for sensitive skin, and lacking in both style and emotional consideration. In addition, there is a gap in community-based support that acknowledges not only the physical effects of hair loss but also the emotional experience that accompanies it.

Project Overview

This project proposes to address this issue by designing, creating, and distributing handmade head wraps for women experiencing hair loss. These head wraps will be intentionally crafted using soft, breathable fabrics that are suitable for sensitive skin, while also incorporating stylish and expressive designs that promote confidence and individuality. Each head wrap will include a handwritten message of encouragement to provide a sense of personal care and connection, reinforcing that the recipient is seen, supported, and valued.

Purpose & Significance

The intended impact of this project is to support women in reclaiming a sense of confidence and identity while also raising awareness about the emotional realities of hair loss. By combining creativity with community engagement, this project demonstrates how fashion and design can serve as tools for care, connection, and empowerment. Ultimately, Wrapped in Strength seeks to show that even small, intentional acts can create meaningful and lasting impact within a community.
