Hi, I’m DeVanique!
Storytelling is the thread that runs through everything I create. Sometimes it appears as a short story on the page. Other times, it takes shape through fabric, movement, or performance. As a writer, designer, model, and actor, I use multiple mediums to release and shape the overflow of creativity I am fortunate to carry.
I tell stories with fabrics: through color, texture, silhouette, and construction. Each design I create is intentional, carrying emotion, memory, and meaning in the same way a written narrative does. My fashion brand, Riley Threads, allows me to translate inner worlds into wearable expressions, where garments become chapters and collections become stories in motion.
Writing remains my foundation. I am a short story writer who uses fiction as a space to explore imagination, vulnerability, and observation. These stories often emerge when my creativity feels too expansive to contain in one form alone. Writing allows me to slow moments down, examine characters and emotions more closely, and give voice to ideas that may begin visually but need language to fully exist.
Modeling and acting extend that storytelling even further. Through performance, I step inside narratives, in my own and others, using presence, expression, and embodiment to communicate what words sometimes cannot. Whether on a set, a runway, or behind the scenes, I am always thinking about narrative: what is being said, what is being felt, and what is left unsaid.
Through my Riley Threads YouTube channel, I share the creative process behind my designs and offer sewing tips to help beginner sewers just like myself. This portfolio reflects a creative practice rooted in storytelling across forms, where writing, design, and performance work together tell fuller, layered stories.
